The latest NTB prices are: Voting Rs 294 and Non Voting Rs. 336. Why non voting shares have always commanded a massive premium over voting shares is a puzzle. They yield the same dividend and the NV shares can be converted to voting in a restricted manner at a 1:1 ratio. The only plausible reason seem to be some investors - maybe due to regulatory constraints - cannot hold voting shares beyond a certain limit.
Anyway, the recently announced rights issue where all shareholder are allotted NV at Rs. 305 seems to offer a chance for voting shareholders to arbitrage the price difference. Will that work after the rights issue??
Following is a Perplexity Finance projection of post-Rights prices:
Scenario Expected NTB.X ex-rights Expected NTB.N ex-rights
Current NTB.X premium persists Rs. 330.3 Rs. 290.6
Premium fully disappears Rs. 295.3 Rs. 295.3
With the drawdown exceeding 20% the market is in bear territory. There is no catalyst in sight for a turnaround and the war in the middle east could re-ignite any time in November. We can expect the market to test the support at 17000 levels by the year end.
